Original Comment

This photo was taken at Ballarat’s Eastern Oval. Appears to be the same (or a similar) group as the team shown in 122_051 - Probably Services team at Ballarat in Mixed Styles The players are wearing the same two jumpers, five of them appear to have Collingwood-type jumpers and thirteen have very wide stripes. At least one of the players is sporting a different jumper to the one worn in 122_051 - Probably Services team at Ballarat in Mixed Styles. To add to the strangeness, the players are wearing different socks. No players recognised. Probably a Ballarat team, and very probably a Services team from the 1942-43 era. Military uniforms are conspicuous in the crowd.

Players wearing two different styles of guernseys with vertical stripes. Grandstand full.

Comment

There was a 1944 game against the RAAF at Eastern Oval and this team is from this match. There is another Boyles photo of a RAAF team at the Ballarat Eastern Oval and that photo has the same spectators behind the players dressed in the same clothes. See 122_245 - RAAF Services team at Ballarat 1944
