The Boyles Connection

VFA

After topping the latter in the Home and Away Series, Coburg (VFA) 114 defeated Port Melbourne (VFA) 107 by 7 points in the 1928 VFA Grand Final. Preston (VFA) finished fourth and was defeated by Port in the semi-final. See http://www.thegapchessclub.org.au/vfa/1928.htm

Victorian Country Football League (VCFL)

The Victorian Country Football League was founded in 1927. The 1928 Weekly Times photos are therefore photos of teams in a new competition and being celebrated in the biggest selling regional weekly newspaper.
