Introduction

The Friendly Societies Ground was established in Echuca in 1875. Built on the Eastern side of the town, for many years it was home to the Echuca East Football Club.

1875 Opening of the Ground

Friendly Societies offered health and Medical insurance prior to the modern healthcare system. Two of the largest friendly societies, Manchester Unity and the Australian Natives Association (the ANA) survived until recently and today are known as Australian Unity.

In the 1800's Friendly Societies provided sports days and other events

Ordnance Factory

During the Second Wold War a munitions factory was constructed on the site of the Ground.
