After playing 96 games for Collingwood, Fitzgerald was lured to South Australian club Sturt where his reputation reached even greater heights. Fitzgerald played 125 games for the Two Blues ( 1951-55, 1959-1962 ) and won the coveted Magarey Medal three times ( 1952, 1954, 1959 ). He was named in the 1953 All-Australian team. Fitzgerald also coached - Sturt ( 1951-55 ) and Glenelg ( 1964-66 ). The grandstand seen in the background here has been beautifully captured in a 1902 photo reproduced in The Official Collingwood Illustrated Encyclopaedia.
