Melbourne (VFL) 1948-1952, 1954 - 88 Games, 5 Goals
GEOFF COLLINS, a player from Yallourn, is the brilliant type of defender, with the habit of unsettling the opposing half-forwards with his dash, determination, and ac- curate disposal. He is the cool type and gives his opponent no quarter.
He joined Melbourne in 1948, and was unfortunate enough to be hurt in his first game-the fourth of the season. It was serious enough to keep him out of the senior side for eight matches. Then he kicked three goals in his next match, missed five more games, and played in the last five, which included the grand final and replayed grand final. Last year he established ' himself as a defender, playing 17 games and taking his tally to 24. This year he was again un- lucky, a thigh injury causing his withdrawal before the first game. Now, however, he is playing well. Geoff is single, plays a good brand of tennis in the summer, and is a salesman.
