Moorabbin (VFA)

Photos by Competition and Team

Introduction

Moorabbin was a founding club in the Federal League in 1909. Was a successful club in the competition, winning 12 premierships before moving to the VFA in 1951. The club's participation abruptly ended in 1963 due to the Moorabbin Council's attempts to get a VFL club to the area and merge the local team with the VFL club. In 1964 StKilda took over Moorabbin as their Home Ground and in retaliation, the VFA voted the Moorabbin club out of the competition. There was no merger and the Moorabbin club, 1963 VFA Premiers, were disbanded.1

In 1982 the club returned to the VFA, as a second division team. Internal dissent caused the club to forfeit three consecutive games resulting in suspension and eventual disbanding of the club.3
