The Australasian newspaper was a weekly newspaper, in many ways a competitor to the Weekly Times. In the early 1930's both newspapers included colourised photos to attract readers.
This page includes a selection of pages from the 1931 and 1932 Australasian.
The Fragile Originals
The source newspapers for these images are the original newspapers at the State Library of Victoria. Regular access is via microfilm, but we were granted access as part of the Boyles project. Frankly, while carefully turning to each colour section to check that we had not missed any photos, Ken and I were entranced by the vivid colour in the images.

As the original newspapers are very fragile and in poor condition it is unlikely that the Library will be able to provide many people with access to the originals. Because of this, rather than just publish the relevant football photos, this page includes a selection of images from the 1931 and 1932 original volumes.
The images on this page are not intended to be representative of the newspaper's coverage. The Australasian included many images of subjects such as the Theatre and horse-racing, and scenic shots that are not included here.
For Australian Rules football photos in the 1931 and 1932 Australasian see
1931-32 Australasian Photos. This page displays only a selection of football photos.

Cricket
During the 1932-33 tour of Australia, the English team led by Douglas Jardine employed a new tactic against the Australian XI, bowling at the body and packing the leg side with fielders. This
Bodyline tactic was designed to defeat Bradman. It made the 1932-33 tour one of the most famous in cricket history.
