There are only 18 Players in the photograph and no one resembles Tom McMahon, he had blondish hair, parted on the left hand side. He is in team photographs in the book Blood Sweat 'n' Cheers The History of the South Melbourne Districts Sporting Club. Reg Bennett could be the player third from the right in the back row, he is in a 1932 team photo in Jim Main's book.

The Sporting Globe article on the game mentions that a photograph of the South Melbourne team was taken at half time, and it delayed the start of the third quarter http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/182987075
